Day 209 - A quick walk in the last of the light

Yet another wet and windy day - warm too. When is the frost and snow going to appear?! I went out for a walk late this afternoon as the light was fading, just an hour outdoors being blown around in the wind, getting home in the dark.

It was good to get out.

Day 208 - Christmas Day on the Moorland

A wet and windy day again! I did consider heading Home for a walk on the rocks (it would have been nice and quiet - without tourists today!) but I really couldn't be bothered! I did go Homewards, to the moors for half an hour though.

A splash of colour in the form of some wall top lichen - Cladonia cristatella,  commonly known as British Soldiers...

I spent the rest of the day alone, reading (I read two books!), aside from watching Stick Man and Doctor Who, and of course an obligatory hour at the family dinner table this evening.  Bah Humbug!

Day 207 - Feeding the birds and a walk in the woods

I made bird food today and put it out in the garden once the showers had passed over.

Later, I went for a walk and watched birds from the hide. Lots of nutchatches and long tailed tits, great tits and blue tits, chaffinches and robins, blackbirds and dunnocks and some willow tits too.

Day 206 - A Sunny Day

Today the sun has been shining all day.  I watched it rise at 8:30 this morning (that was the time it appeared for me, from behind a hill)

and later spent a short time enjoying the light and colour on the landscape.

Day 205 - Winter Solstice

The first day of winter.

This morning (before the rain came) I went into the garden and took a few sprigs of holly from the hedge. I like having a mixed hedge down one side of the garden!

A little later I went for a short walk to gather a little ivy as there isn't any in the garden any more.

Back home, the autumn bowl became the winter bowl...

I know it doesn't look brilliant, but I'm ok with my 'twigs stuffed in a jar' efforts!
I don't really 'do' creativity - I'm the academic one, my sister is the creative one! If I'd asked her to put something together, it would have looked amazing (she's a florist). One day I might make a proper effort to collect some greenery and ask my sister to arrange it artfully for me... one day!

This evening I lit some candles as I do every Winter Solstice.
