Wild October : Day 12

This morning I saved a field vole from a cat :)

Well, I hope it survived. I gave it a chance at survival at least. It didn't appear to be harmed and it seemed bright eyed and active after I'd caught it to release back in to the wild.

Later, between taking Gran shopping and going to school for the afternoon, instead of having half an hour at home as I usually do, I headed straight to school and stopped to eat an apple for lunch whilst sitting on a wall on the way...

I usually teach phonics for an hour every afternoon but today's phonics sessions were cancelled due to a class being out on their trip educational visit. Instead, I had an hour supervising outdoor free play in the EYFS. There were lots of fallen leaves around so I made a hedgehog and tried to get a few of the children involved in creating some kind of natural art.

Only three children showed any interest but that's better than none at all I guess! This is what one of them created. I bribed them a little as all three wanted to use the school camera so I said if they created a piece of leaf art they could take a photo of it themselves which they enjoyed doing!

It's very rare I get to do anything natured related or outdoors at school so my hour outdoors was quite a treat today, especially as the sun was shining once again!

Day 224 - A Walk Around the Reservoir

A five mile walk today around Tittesworth Reservoir. It was good to get outdoors for some proper fresh air and exercise!

I started off noticing the mosses and lichens along the top of a dry stone wall (something I always notice!)

A flock of gulls wheeling overhead

Those rocks to the right below are Ramshaw Rocks, where I was yesterday.

Tittesworth Water, the local reservoir:

A flock of gulls again (perhaps the same flock) in a patch of sunlight. You might be able to see a few people standing on top of Shutlingsloe, which is peeking up on the left like a shark fin.

The walk took an hour and a half and was a good one - I've not done this walk for a while but I really should do it more often.

Day 208 - Christmas Day on the Moorland

A wet and windy day again! I did consider heading Home for a walk on the rocks (it would have been nice and quiet - without tourists today!) but I really couldn't be bothered! I did go Homewards, to the moors for half an hour though.

A splash of colour in the form of some wall top lichen - Cladonia cristatella,  commonly known as British Soldiers...

I spent the rest of the day alone, reading (I read two books!), aside from watching Stick Man and Doctor Who, and of course an obligatory hour at the family dinner table this evening.  Bah Humbug!

Day 195 - Looking at Lichen

A wet and windy day again.

I spent some time outside looking at lichens on a tree trunk this afternoon.
