Day 356 - Forest School

Forest School time again, volunteering with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust. Today we had three family sessions, two sessions for younger children and a session aimed at 7-15 years olds.

With the younger children, we played a game to start with and then learned about fire, used flint and steels to make sparks and then light cotton wool, then straw. We each whittle a stick to prepare it for wrapping some bread dought around, then cooked the dough over a group fire.

The ground was soaked and very muddy so there was no danger of the grass catching fire today!

The older children also played a game to start and then learned a couple of knots and used these to help them put up a tarpaulin shelter, which they later sat in to eat a biscuit and have some reflection time before we finished.
