There was a flock of lapwings in one field and a couple of fields along there was a solitary lapwing which I was rather close to and was able to watch for a while (until he flew on and joined the others). He was feeding and foot tapping to disturb insects from their cover and encourage them to the surface.
You really caught the beautiful colours on his wings. X

ReplyDeleteI'm not sure I would have figured out that the foot tapping had something to do with bringing the insects up. That's fascinating. With that 'top hat' and that foot tapping this bird sounds like the Fred Astaire of birds ; ). I was just reading about how walking sticks quiver a little to resemble the way a real twig quivers so that they can throw off predators. Just goes to show that wacky behavior is usually quite logical.
