Day 12 - Moorland

Day 12 has perhaps been the hardest day so far.

I'm feeling tired, I woke up with a headache, had a really busy day and have work related things on my mind so I wasn't really feeling it today for 30 Days Wild. I decided I didn't have the energy or inclination to go out for the walk I had planned to attend (an organised local one) so instead, I just spent about 40 minutes on the moorland...

It has been really hot and humid all day - sunny until 2:30 or so then it turned overcast and hazy and a few light rain showers passed over.

I love the cotton grass - definitely one of my favourite things. I also enjoyed hearing the curlews and grouse around me - and the smaller birds too.

Tormentil
unknown plant
parent wren with food (roughly in centre) -  I could hear the chicks calling in a nest nearby

At home I noticed lots more spiderlings on the laurel hedge too... they dispersed when a few raindrops started to fall.

I'm looking forward to a lie in tomorrow and hoping to feel more like playing outside than I have today!

  2. Just catching up on your posts, I would love to live a little closer to a moor so I could just take my self of and sit there quietly for a while. I find the cotton grass lovely, has a romance to it.
The small white flower could be Heather Bedstraw (Galium saxatile) it's out on yeadon banks at the moment , and
the nettle has Rust Fungus - Puccinia urticata. Hope the headache has cleared.

  3. Some days are definitely harder than others to rustle up the energy for 30 days. The humidity yesterday was energy sapping too. Loving the photos of the cotton grass - I've been waiting patiently for you to post photos of it :) Hope you're feeling better - I'm feeling tired - too much late night blogging! x

    1. PS Thanks for the bug identification - I knew you'd know :) BTW, the hand was Chickpea's boyfriend. Mine are far more freckly and very unlikely to have a bug on them! x

  5. Some days are definitely harder than others. As a child (and probably as an adult) we called cotton grass cotton drumsticks, the moors are always beautiful. Even when they look bleak they are beautiful. Sarah
